I'm becoming rather frustrated with the TTC, especially since it is my only mode of transportation in Toronto.
This morning, surprise surprise, there was a delay on the subway; apparently a train broke down at Royal York Station. Of course, when I left my house, an HOUR earlier than I needed to, I was completely unaware of this fact. I boarded at my subway station, and just as we pulled out of the station, the train came to a complete stop. Ten minutes went by, and the train didn't budge. 15 minutes, we moved a whole fifty feet or so, and then stopped again. Five more minutes, and we slowly crawled into the next station as the driver announced. "Attention all customers, this train is going out of service. Everyone please exit the train and another one will be along shortly."
I don't like to voice my disgust at a situation, but I was so angry by this point (especially since in that forty minutes I could have walked a few stops down the bloor-danforth line) that I could barely stop myself from muttering 'You've got to be shitting me.'
Anyway, after getting off the train onto the now crowded platform, an announcement rings over the loudspeaker. "Attention all customers on the Bloor-danforth subway line. We are experiencing a delay at Royal York Subway Station, and will be offering a shuttle-bus from Jane to Kipling. Sorry for the delay."
Well gee, that helps those of us that are now STRANDED at Runnymede station. The other train just sat in the tunnel, staring down at us, laughing at the frustration echoing through the station.
Finally, over an hour after I had left my subway station, I boarded another train at Runnymede and made it to Kipling.
A ride to school that should have taken me less than an hour took nearly two hours.
Last Thursday morning, a similar experience, only it was the subway that was reliable, and the bus that was not. I (among with many others) waited almost an hour for a bus to pull into Kipling that was headed to my school.
Needless to say, I'm not very happy with public transit at the moment.
